PROF. DR. ALP GÜRKAN

Prof. Dr. Alp GÜRKAN was born in İzmir. In 1981, he completed his medical education at Ege University Faculty of Medicine and received the title of medical doctor. In the same year, he worked at Yale University Cardiovascular Surgery Department Experimental Surgery Center for 18 months. He completed his specialization in Ege University Faculty of Medicine, Department of General Surgery and became a General Surgery Specialist in 1989. Later, he fulfilled his compulsory service obligation at Manisa SSK Hospital and his military service at Amasya 100-Bed Military Hospital.

 

In 1992, he was assigned to establish an organ transplant department at the SB Tepecik Training and Research Hospital. In 1992, he received 6 months of organ transplantation training at Ege University Organ Transplantation Department and Harvard University Women's and Brigham Hospital. In November 1992, he started organ transplant operations at Tepecik Training and Research Hospital. He implemented the firsts in organ transplantation such as the first cross kidney transplant, the first laparoscopic donor surgery, the first small intestine transplant in Turkey.
